Created in collaboration with Filip Rezabek (Algorand Centre of Excellence , TU München) this guide is based on information provided by the Foundation as well as our experience with dozens of Algorand community members. It aims to guide anyone (especially non-developers) interested running an Alrogand participation node to help further decentralize the network.
Choosing your hardware
A. Technical requirements
The device you pick should have :

Minimum 8GB of RAM

An SSD hard drive (minimum 100 GB NVMe SSD is recommended)

An internet connection of at least 100Mbps (1Gbps is recommended)
B. Other considerations
The ideal scenario is to use a device that you can leave on 24/7 because when you turn it off you need to tell the network that you did (more on this at the end of the setup instructions).
Based on the common errors and difficulties experiences by community members, we recommend using Linux or Mac.
➡ If you choose to use Linux : we recommend buying a second-hand mini-PC (like the Lenovo ThinkCentre m70q for example) and install Linux on it with a bootable USB stick. There are several videos on YouTube that will show you how to do this and how to install Linux on your machine.
➡ If you choose to use a Mac computer: it will need to run on Mac OS 12.0 or higher. Also double check that the hard drive is SSD (and not HDD).
